Update: I didn’t quit.

Few days ago, I was thinking about skipping “Scythe” by Neal Shusterman. I was 10-15% in, and the idea of random death when people achieved near immortality cut deep.

(I lost my stepfather last year, so the topic of mortality and death has been on my mind a lot.)

I view stories of different mediums (think: books, paintings, TV series, and so on) as conversations with authors. They pour their emotions into the piece – for the audience on the other side to hear and respond (and not always verbally). When something causes such an emotional stir in me, a response from my mind, isn’t the conversation worth keeping up?

My curiosity had won – and so I plunged into the story of "Scythe" to hear more, and see where the author was leading me.

(I’m thinking of sharing some book reviews separately, in case you’re curious about the “conversations” with authors that left the most impact on me.)

With love,

Mariia
